Duties and responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining Internship Program including program goals, materials and means of evaluation.
  • Managing, guiding, and setting policies for internship programs.
  • Working jointly with other organizations and institutions to create training modules for interns.
  • Developing talent acquisition strategies through developing and rolling out internship programs.
  • Negotiating with organizations on compensation, benefits, training, performance management, policy and governance in line with the institutions’ objectives.
  • Developing positive value proposition for institutions to provide training programs to successful trainees.
  • Managing intern surveys to drive enhancement of program elements, including assignment quality.
  • Mentoring interns as required.
  • Any other tasks as may be assigned by the project manager.
Qualifications
  • A degree or equivalent in Business Administration with specialization in Human Resource.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team player with leadership skills.
  • Good analytical skills.

About the internship:  The Child Protection Intern will work together with Child protection team and will be responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support to the team.  Specifically (S)he will be responsible for programme reporting, documentation of casestudies, programme follow ups, report reviews,  and planning of programme events/meetings.
Reporting to: The Programme Manager, Child protection
Hours: 40hr week (Monday-Friday)
Location: ICS Africa regional offices in Nairobi but with a few travels in the region
Start Date: July 1st or earlier
Duration: 6 months
The child protection intern will be responsible for:
1.       Timely coordination  and consolidation of programme related reports
2.      Review of partner and other programme reports to ensure  reporting requirements are met and are in line with approved plans and budgets
3.      Documentation and dissemination  of  programme case studies  and activities
4.      Organizing, planning, and scheduling programme activities and events
5.      Provide day to day administrative support to the child protection team 

Qualifications and competencies
·          Fresh university graduate  with a degree  in social sciences, develoment studies or related studies
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·         Report writting skills.
·         Personal organisational and time management skills.
·         Familiarity with Microsoft packages; Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
·         Previous short term engagement or internship with  a development and/or child focused organisation is desired.

A Vacancy for a Programme Intern Exists at PELUM-Kenya Country Secretariat in Thika!


PELUM – Kenya wishes to recruit a Programme Intern to support programmes implementation. Qualified and interested candidates are herein requested to respond to this call for expression of interest appropriately. 

1. Key Responsibilities and Engagements of the Programme Intern at PELUM-Kenya Country Secretariat. 
 
  • To support Programme Officers in field activities implementation.
  • To act as link persons for logistical arrangements and support in programme meetings and events  organized by PELUM-Kenya.
  • To compile data related to attendances in meetings and events.
  • To Stand in for PELUM-Kenya Programme Officers whenever required to do so.
  • To act as principal assistant to Programme Officer (s)
  • To undertake any other relevant duties as may be delegated or instructed by the Management of PELUM-Kenya.

Qualifications / Attributes
The ideal candidate will have the following qualities;
  • Be educated to degree level in agriculture, environment or a closely related discipline.
  • Have completed university education i.e. not a continuing student either in research or undertaking work contributing to studies completion. Copies of Degree Certificates must be provided.
  • Have computers operating skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Be a good communicator both in writing and speaking
  • Passionate to work with communities and other stakeholders
  • Willing to work long hours to beat deadlines and targets
  • Willing to learn and be mentored in development and networking
  • Be a team player and able to travel to the field most of the time

3. Remuneration
This is not a salaried / remunerated position and the person to be engaged will only benefit from a monthly stipend/ living allowance of KES 15,000. 
This is an all-in monthly payment including meals and housing costs. This payment will also be subject to statutory deductions 

4. Location The person to be engaged will work from Thika (PELUM-Kenya Country Office) with field travel across Kenya as may be required by programmatic work.

AFRA-Kenya’s Internship Program – Opportunities Notice
Artists For Recognition and Acceptance (AFRA–Kenya)’s Internship Program offers a competitive, paid 3 month opportunity from 1st July 2012 to 1st September 2012 in an environment that has considerable resonance and personal meaning to lesbian and bisexual (LB) women artists in Kenya.
The overall objective of the AFRA-Kenya’s Internship Program is to horn professional and advocacy skills, attitudes and practices of Lesbian and Bisexual women artists that can position them to take up leadership within the community and beyond.
The terms of reference will be based on two main areas including:
1.. Administrative duties that include organizing meetings and events, sending invitations, taking minutes during the meeting, circulating them to the AFRA-Kenya membership and keeping an up to date member contact list.
2. Filing of organizational documents, reports etc.
3. Representing AFRA-Kenya in meetings when called upon and preparing reports arising from the same.
4. Regularly updating the AFRA-Kenya social network pages with information on the organization’s current activities, reply to official emails as well as carry out regular follow up with members and other LB identifying women wishing to become part of the AFRA-Kenya membership.
5. Add to create a data base of all members and do other assigned duties.
Alongside an individual’s talents, a good academic background, career objectives, skill sets and even behavior profile that will enhance AFRA-Kenya’s specific needs and priorities, a job description, key performance and evaluation targets will be designed to guide the tenure of the internship.
The AFRA-Kenya Intern will be expected to submit a monthly progress report by the last day of every month during the internship period and a final report by 1st September 2012. Upon conclusion of their internship program, the intern will undergo an exit interview.
The eligibility criterion is as follows:
  1. Identify as either Lesbian and/or Bisexual woman.
  2. Passion for working on sexual orientation issues.
  3. Post high school/tertiary level education in a field of choice.
  4. Working knowledge of and competence in basic computer programs and packages.
  5. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  6. Flexibility in schedule and accessibility outside of working hours to address questions or concerns.
  7. Proven ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Residing in, or able to relocate to Nairobi.
  9. Ability to deal successfully with complex information and procedures.
