ROLE PURPOSE:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Security Manager, the security intern will carry out routine safety and security tasks as shall be assigned by the Security Manager. The post holder will work in close collaboration with and support all Safety and Security Focal Points (SSFPs) countrywide.


Dimensions:
Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support
to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. In Feb 2014, we completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our own. Save the Children now has an operational presence in Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and we work through partners in many other parts of the country. We employ nearly 300 staff and will have an operating annual budget in 2015 of approximately US$20-25 million


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Routine Safety and Security Manager Duties
  • Carry out security briefings for new staffs and International staffs visiting the SC country offices
  • Provide security updates to staffs as and when required
  • Update the bulk SMS system and use the same to
  • Transmit and receive security related information in to/from all concerned
  • Participate in coordinating staff emergency/medical evacuation.
  • Follow-up with logistics of security purchases
  • With the assistance of the safety and security manager liaise with the UN, GoK and other agencies in the process of collecting an verifying security information
  • With the assistance of the Safety and Security Manager collate information from the field offices in the process of generating security reports
  • Carry out other lawful and ethical assignments as shall be assigned by the Safety and Security Manager
  • Documentation
  • Update and file security related documents as shall be assigned (for example, constant companions, safety and security training database, incident reports, training reports etc)
  • Ensure that staffs who receive security briefings and orientations sign
  • the relevant form
  • File all security related documents according to established practice
  • With the help of the safety and security manager, document all reported security incidents
Personal Development
Document and submit to the Safety and Security Manager a fortnightly report on key lessons learnt during the internship
 

Danish Refugee Council- Logistics & Procurement Intern

BackgroundDRC is an international non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. DRC has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a human rights framework, the DRC Horn and Africa and Yemen (HOAY) operation focus es mainly on populations affected by displacement in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Yemen and regional mixed migration flows. DRC aims to create a synergy between the different humanitarian aid and development projects in the HOAY –both in terms of geographical coverage and types of activities implemented in support of refugees and populations displaced or otherwise affected by conflict, consequences of climate change and natural hazards in the region.

DRC’s mandate is driven by three global strategic objectives within the DRC Assistance Framework: Saving lives and alleviation of immediate suffering among people affected by conflict, Safeguarding, restoration and development of livelihoods, and, Institutional and organisational change that contributes to protection of people’s rights and peaceful handling of conflict. DRCs current regional objective is to support and strengthen a regional protection framework for displacement affected communities throughout the Horn of Africa and Yemen. The region has developed a programme framework specific for the current context in which all projects and programmes contribute.
 

Purpose
The Logistics and Procurement Intern’s main objective will be to provide administrative support to the Procurement, assets, fleet and warehousing teams at the Regional office.
 

Norwegian Refugee Council- Human Resources Intern



The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors. The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 4000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its Horn of Africa Programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations.
 
The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Kakuma ), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Dolo Ado, Shire,Gambella and Asosa), South Sudan (Juba, Awil, Alek and Aweril) and Yemen (Sa’naa and Aden). 

The NRC Horn of Africa & Yemen mission is an expanding programme. NRC started its operations in Kenya in the refugee camps in Dadaab in February 2007. NRC has WASH, Shelter, Education, Food Security and Livelihood and Information Counseling and Legal Assistant programmes implemented in the refugee camps in Dadaab. 


As part of the HR team, the intern will provide administrative, logistical and training support to the Regional and Kenya HR units. Job description

  • In liaison with the other support functions at the regional office, ensure that the learning event timelines are implemented and adhered to.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports for the intensive learning programs and one off learning events.
  • Assist the Regional Training Coordinator in preparing training material
  • Assist the Kenya HR unit in recruitment processes
  • Assist in filling HR documents
  • Assist with pre and post learning/ training events tasks (preparing support materials for facilitators , follow up of participants, and creating action items post learning events)
  • Assist with the updating of the regional training database and the compilation of monthly/ quarterly learning updates.
  • Undertake research, write, create presentations and produce briefs on training and development.
  • Complete other administrative tasks when needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, graduated within the past one year
  • Education field-Social sciense/Administration / Organisation / Management
  • Education level:Academy college / University

Personal qualities
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to handle concurrent tasks
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications (more specifically PowerPoint, Excel and publisher)
