Budget Transparency (Internship)

Project Summary: In partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Finance and the Overseas Development Institute, IPA assesses the impact of providing highly disaggregate, location specific information on budget allocation and expenditures on the quality of service provision. Target groups include local councilors and local opinion leaders.

Position Summary: The intern will work closely with the PI and a team of Field Managers on overseeing baseline data collection and managing incoming data. Tasks include:
  • Receiving and submitting electronic survey data on a daily basis
  • Ensuring quality of the data through high frequency checks and consolidating data with auditor results
  • Involvement in survey design, programming and oversight of field teams
Strong candidates have strong STATA skills, and ideally experience working and/or living in rural areas in developing countries as well as good management skills.

ROLE PURPOSE:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Security Manager, the security intern will carry out routine safety and security tasks as shall be assigned by the Security Manager. The post holder will work in close collaboration with and support all Safety and Security Focal Points (SSFPs) countrywide.


Dimensions:
Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support
to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. In Feb 2014, we completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our own. Save the Children now has an operational presence in Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and we work through partners in many other parts of the country. We employ nearly 300 staff and will have an operating annual budget in 2015 of approximately US$20-25 million


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Routine Safety and Security Manager Duties
  • Carry out security briefings for new staffs and International staffs visiting the SC country offices
  • Provide security updates to staffs as and when required

Danish Refugee Council- Logistics & Procurement Intern

BackgroundDRC is an international non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. DRC has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a human rights framework, the DRC Horn and Africa and Yemen (HOAY) operation focus es mainly on populations affected by displacement in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Yemen and regional mixed migration flows. DRC aims to create a synergy between the different humanitarian aid and development projects in the HOAY –both in terms of geographical coverage and types of activities implemented in support of refugees and populations displaced or otherwise affected by conflict, consequences of climate change and natural hazards in the region.

DRC’s mandate is driven by three global strategic objectives within the DRC Assistance Framework: Saving lives and alleviation of immediate suffering among people affected by conflict, Safeguarding, restoration and development of livelihoods, and, Institutional and organisational change that contributes to protection of people’s rights and peaceful handling of conflict. DRCs current regional objective is to support and strengthen a regional protection framework for displacement affected communities throughout the Horn of Africa and Yemen. The region has developed a programme framework specific for the current context in which all projects and programmes contribute.

We are looking for three -3 passionate (to making a significant contribution to Youth leadership & entrepreneurship development) young people under 30 years old from any country to fill in below positions:

1.Public Relations Assistant:The ITF’s Public relations Assistant is responsible of all external linkages including coordination of fundraising and communications activities. He/she uses a wide range of media to build and sustain good relationships between the organization’s members, beneficiaries and partners. The ITF’s P R Assistant main task is to secure additional funding to enable the continuing activities (projects).

2.Projects Assistant:**The ITF’s Projects Assistant is responsible for delivering and building Youth leadership and entrepreneurship projects of varying size and complexity. She/he is responsible for coordinating, organizing and controlling all projects’ activities, under the direction of Operations Director.

3.IT & Development Assistant:The ITF’s IT & Development Assistant leads the organization’s process to chart its Youth development course technologically. He/she is responsible for the technological direction of the organization and organizational development.

Oxfam Volunteer - Campaigns & Policy (INT1296)

Duration: 6 months

This is an unpaid Volunteer role, based in Nairobi - Kenya

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organising campaigns and policy team monthly meetings and putting together notes and sharing in a timely manner and also following on action points
  • Helping with admin plans for campaigns and policy team meetings – Helios, finance, logs and admin
  • Putting together requests (Helios) from systems and assisting with systems updates and follow through of request
  • Assist campaigns and policy manager in management of diary and travel logistics and communication
  • Supporting the RCPM and RIC lead with scheduling conference calls, dial-ins and taking minutes from these meetings and follow ups.
  • Looking out for calls for funding and working with teams to develop draft concepts and proposals thereafter
  • Finalising the organisation of the resource centre
  • Following what’s trending on FB,twitter etc and updating RCPM’s handles when requested
  • Developing, maintaining and updating a calendar of events for the team
  • Supporting RIC lead with regular posting and uploading and communicating out to teams on what content is available esp. on internal systems and updating RIC elists and note taking on RIC calls, sharing notes etc
  • Supporting the resilience lead with documentation, helping set up meetings internally
  • Other support to the campaigns team as requested by the RCPM
