Alliances for Africa (AfA) is pleased to offer an exciting internship opportunity to a dynamic, disciplined and focused individual looking to work in a women’s rights not-for-profit organization. AfA is a Non-governmental organization focused on human rights, peace and sustainable development. Africa works with partners in, around and beyond the continent of Africa. AfA was created to enhance and reconstruct the interface between human rights and development with a vision to contributing innovatively to tackling the root causes of endemic poverty and exclusion in Africa.
AfA is a co-host of the Nigerian Feminist forum (NFF), a member of the Nigerian CEDAW Coalition, the Raising Her Voices Coalition, a member of the Legislative Advocacy Coalition on Violence Against Women (LACVAW), steering committee member of the Solidarity for African Women’s Rights (SOAWR) and executive committee member of the State of the Union Nigeria (SOTU-n-CAMP).

Job Description:
The intern is to provide communication and advocacy research support to AfA and contribute to the development of programmatic intervention in AfA’s core areas, coalitions and networks. Duties will be varied ranging from; Assisting in developing content for communication materials, website and social media updates; uploading information on our websites, Facebook, twitter and blogs in addition to other internet-related tasks; Developing a Communications Strategy for AfA to advance its mission and achieve new organizational strength; Writing and editing Annual Reports, Press Releases and Articles for publication; Publish conference and workshop reports for dissemination; Developing information brochure, Assisting in the organization of press conferences, acting as General Rapporteur; providing Meetings support, writing reports; Acting as Public/Media Relations Officer and represent AfA at meetings or other functions as assigned; Promoting the feminist principles; Campaigning for equality and non-discrimination and an end to sexual and gender based violence; Provide advocacy support on affirmative action in women leadership in decision making programmes.
Requirements:
- The candidate must possess strong communication skills, a zeal to learn, ability to work as part of a team under minimal supervision, must be computer literate, meticulous attention to details and have a pro-active attitude.
- Minimum academic qualification: OND (Ordinary National Diploma) or its equivalent in any subject. Candidates with social sciences and law background would have an advantage but we are looking for persons who can demonstrate interest and ability to work on the issues mentioned above and not on your major subject.
- Good command of written and spoken English. This would be tested.
- Good computer skills especially Microsoft Word. Ability to use Excel and/or PowerPoint would be an advantage. Note that you would be tested if selected for an interview.
- Interns able to commit to one-year internship are preferred. However, those who can commit to a minimum of 6 months would also be considered. Candidates or Industrial Attachment (IT) applicants who can only commit to less than 6 months need not apply.
