KENYA COASTAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT -KCDP Scholarships Opportunities Available

Kenya Coastal Development Project (KCDP) is a multi-sectoral development project financed by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility, and hosted by the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) and implemented by seven Government Agencies. The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to improve Management
effectiveness and enhance revenue generation of Kenya’s coastal and marine resources. As part of its capacity building programme, KCDP is offering scholarships opportunities to assist needy coastal students

* with outstanding academic performance to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in natural resource management, community development, or any other related disciplines. 

*Coastal students are identified as students who were born in coast and/or come from indigenous coastal communities 

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
The KCDP undergraduate scholarships provide one year tuition fees and project costs for students in their final year of study at any of the accredited Kenyan Universities. While a total of sixty (60) slots - 10 per coastal county - were initially available, sixteen (16) slots were absorbed after the first announcement in October 2013. Therefore the openings available in this call are as shown below: 

Applications for the above undergraduate scholarships are invited from coastal students who meet the following minimum criteria: 

1. Registered as fulltime students and pursuing a degree course in Natural Resource Management, Community 
Development, or other related disciplines; 
2. Have completed third year and/or proceeding to their final year of study; 
3. Have above average academic performance; 
4. Below 30 years of age. 

Applicants should fill in the Undergraduate application form (www.kcdp.co.ke) and attach the following documents: 
1. A copy of their identity card; 
2. Copies of academic transcripts and evidence of proceeding to the final year of study; 
3. A letter of evidence from the University indicating need for financial support; 
4. An official statement from the university showing the current fee balance; 
5. A personal statement indicating the motivation of applying for the KCDP Scholarship; 
6. Letters of reference from two (2) Academic Referees. 

POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
These scholarships are available to coastal students with outstanding academic credentials to undertake a Masters degree in Natural Resource Management, Community Development, or other related disciplines at any of the Kenyan accredited Universities. The Scholarship provides: 2 years tuition cost including statutory fees, research cost and

KCDP monthly stipend of KShs 30,000. Following the first call (October 2013) for KCDP postgraduate scholarships, eighteen (18) slots were filled and therefore in this second call, the available openings per county are as shown below:

Applications for the above postgraduate scholarships are therefore invited from coastal students who meet the following minimum criteria: 

1. Hold 1st Class or 2nd Class Honours (Upper ) undergraduate degree in the relevant field; 
2. Applicants with second lower must demonstrate evidence of at least 2 years work experience; 
3. Obtained admission for full time Masters Degree in the KCDP targeted field of studies; 
4. Below 45 years of age; 

Applicants should fill in the postgraduate application form (www.kcdp.co.ke) and attach the following documents: 
1. A copy of their identity card; 
2. Copies of academic transcripts and evidence of final grade obtained; 
3. Letter of admission indicating commencement date; 
4. For continuing students, an official statement of current fee balance is required; 
5. A letter from previous University indicating need for financial support; 
6. A personal statement indicating the motivation of applying for KCDP Scholarship; 
7. Letters of reference from two (2) Academic Referees.

Internship Opportunities Available


Kenya Coastal Development Project (KCDP) is a multi-sectoral development project financed by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility, hosted by the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) and implemented by seven Government Agencies. The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to improve management effectiveness and enhance revenue generation of Kenya’s coastal and marine resources. As part of its capacity building programme, KCDP provides internship opportunities to expose coastal students to management of coastal and marine resources through engagement in various KCDP activities. 


The internship opportunities target students who have

  • completed their Diploma, First or Masters degree level at any of the accredited Kenyan Universities. 

Interns will be

attached to one of the seven KCDP implementing agencies and assigned specific tasks where they will gain experience in a multi-sectoral development programme. The interns will take part in various activities both at the office and in the field.

A total of 11 (Eleven) internship slots are available in the following KCDP programmes:

Duration of internship:
Maximum of 6 months (non-renewable).

A monthly travel and lunch allowance amounting to KShs 20,000/- will be provided.


Applications:

Potential applicants should meet the following minimum criteria:

1. Have completed a Diploma, First degree or Masters degree from a recognised university;
2. Are below 35 years of age;
3. Are in good health as supported by a medical report.


Applicants should submit the following:
1. An application letter;
2. Copy of national identification card;
3. Copies of academic and professional certificates including curriculum vitae;
4. A personal statement describing motivation and expectation of the KCDP internship;
5. Medical report.
