Communications Internship with IRC Belgium

Background

The International Rescue Committee is a leading global humanitarian and post-conflict development organisation, working with people and communities affected by conflicts and natural disasters in more than 40 countries around the world.

International Rescue Committee Belgium asbl-vzw represents the IRC’s global network in Belgium. Established in 2001, IRC Belgium carries out policy and advocacy work, provides technical support to IRC programmes in the field, and raises funds to support those affected by conflict and disaster.

The IRC is looking for a Communications Intern for the Brussels office.

Duration: 6 to 9 months, full-time internship, starting at short notice.

Intern Duties
  • Research, writing and proofing for a range of IRC Belgium publications (predominantly online);
  • Proofreading and editing translations from English into Dutch and French;
  • Liaising with external translators;
  • Maintaining the IRC Belgium website, regularly uploading content using Drupal cms;
  • Collaborating and liaising with IRC’s Communications Department in London;
  • Performing other duties as needed, such as helping with presentations, the organisation of events and with administrative tasks.
Profile
Graduate degree in Communications, in Translation/Interpretation or demonstrated communications experience;
Fluency in English, French and Dutch, both verbal and written is an essential requirement;
Excellent communication and writing skills, proficient computer skills;
An interest in humanitarian, development and related issues;
Experience of photo editing would be advantageous.

Conditions: We offer interns a monthly stipend as will be explained during the interview.

Institute for Security Studies

The CMPB Division works in the following thematic areas:

Area 1: Conflict management and peacebuilding
Area 2: Training for Peace
Area 3: Security sector reform and governance
Area 4: Gender, peace and security
Area 5: Maritime security

We have a vacancy for one intern for 6 months. The intern will be based in the Pretoria office. The successful candidate will have good analysis and communication skills. He/she will be knowledgeable in the fields of post-conflict reconstruction, peacebuilding, South African foreign policy, and gender, peace and security in Africa.

Requirements:


  • An honours degree
  • Excellent research, language and writing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • A willingness to learn

Salary: The intern will be paid a modest stipend.
