Kenya Extractive Industries Development Programme (KEIDP) Project Intern Lodwar, Kenya

Background Danish Demining Group (DDG) is part of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). DDG is specialised in Armed Violence Reduction and Humanitarian Mine Action. DDG has programmes across the world and implements AVR programmes in the following countries in Eastern Africa: Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan,Uganda and Kenya. The AVR approach is currently implemented at the national and community level. At the national level, DDG seeks to support the authorities with small arms management and support peace building and security sector reform initiatives. The community safety approach is rooted in a participatory process, where DDG assists target communities to assess their safety and security situation, define and prioritise their safety and security needs and identify resources to address these needs.
 
Support the implementation of the Kenya Extractive Industries Development Programme (KEIDP) Community Engagement Pilot project.
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Support planning and implementation of project activities
  • Take minutes and draft reports
  • Support the implementation of the project M&E Plan
  • Any other tasks as agreed with DDG Senior Project Officer.
Reporting Arrangements
Line manager: Senior Project Officer
 

Personal Specifications
  • A university degree in peace studies, political science or related field,
  • Substantial knowledge of the Kenya political system from community to national level,
  • Exceptional understanding of local dynamics in Turkana
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Fluency in Turkana.
  • Excellent note taking skills
  • High degree of computer literacy,
Preferable:
  • Experience with community peace and/or development work.
  • Experience of proposal writing and fundraising, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience of working in insecure environments.
  • Good understanding of new information and communication technologies (ICT) and how these can be utilised for peace and development.
 Duration-The Internship is for a period of 6 months
