Location: Directorate of Communications, AMREF Headquarters
Duration: Up to 6 months starting September 2013
Time: The work will be full time with an expected amount of 37.5hours per week
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Writing Manager
Responsibilities
- Prepare human interest and feature stories, news articles, press releases etc
- Record, transcribe and edit interviews
- Writing and helping brainstorm stories for our various AMREF channels including website, newsletter, global health days etc
- Assist in the production, editing and proofreading of documents including layout
- Assist in the preparation of the external newsletter aimed at informing our stakeholders about new developments, our activities and impact
- Write press releases, media alerts, blogs, web articles
- Provide content for updating AMREF profiles on social networks (Facebook, Twitter etc) on project activities and events
- Provide support to the Stand Up for African Mothers campaign- collection of stories,
- Brainstorming marketing & creative ideas
- Provide support in organisation and staffing of events
- Track and document media coverage on a daily basis for AMREF globally
- General assistance to the Communications Directorate
Qualifications and competencies
- Degree in Communications
- Experience of writing articles (such as news stories, features, blogs etc) preferably in health or related areas
- Strong oral and written communication skills including ability to source and sense good human interest pieces
- Remains calm, in control and good humored even under pressure;
- Demonstrates openness to change and ability to manage complexities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to think and work logically and work precisely with attention to detail
- Team player
- Ability to work within deadlines
