Responsibilities
The intern will be posted under and support the work of the Capacity Development Unit-CDU, as outlined below.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the needs of the unit.
The intern will report directly to one professional staff of the CDU and work under the overall supervision of the chief of the CDU.
The intern will focus his/her work on one or more of the following thematic and operational areas of the CDU:
The UN-HABITAT/Research and Capacity Development Branch/Capacity Development Unit internship is for 6 months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
The internship offers an exciting and vibrant learning environment for the intern due to the close linkage between the knowledge development, training and skill development resulted from the close synergies between CDU and the other units and products of the Research and Capacity Development Branch such as the 350 Global Sample of Cities, the Global Slum Monitoring System, the MDG Reporting, the State of the World Cities Report, and the global urban indicators programme held by the Global Urban Observatory.

The intern will report directly to one professional staff of the CDU and work under the overall supervision of the chief of the CDU.
The intern will focus his/her work on one or more of the following thematic and operational areas of the CDU:
- UN-Habitat University Network Initiative (UNI)
- Technical assistance to the International Urban Training Centre (IUTC), Province of Gangwon, South
- Korea
- Development of training tools drawn on the Quick Guides on Housing the Poor in African Cities
- Strengthening Training Institutions Project
- Development and administration of E-Learning training programmes
- Training and Capacity Building in Cities and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
- Development and implementation of training Programmes
- Development of Training Support Materials and Case Studies Documentation
- Support to Communication and Information Management
- Assist in the preparation of draft concept papers, background documents and research proposals;
- Assist in the development of partnerships with universities for the UN-Habitat University NetworkInitiative (UNI);
- Develop and maintain databases;
- Assist with communication and information management, establishing connections between academia/research partners, internal colleagues, training institutions, etc.;
- Assist with the management of websites and drafting of newsletters;
- Assist with planning and marketing of courses;
- Assist in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of UN-HABITAT regional workshops in Africa, Arab states, Asia, and Latin America, including research and compilation of relevant information and materials;
- Assist with the management of the online UN-HABITAT learning management system by reviewing applications, enrolling new users, and supporting response to user queries;
- Assist in the research, identification and case study documentation on UN-HABITAT’s role in promoting the resilience of cities to climate change through training and capacity building;
- Undertake other assignments as required for the development and implementation of the work programme of the Capacity Development Unit.
- Assist in information management, documentation and substantive support to the functioning of CDU.
