JOB DESIGNATION: Inclusive Intern

LOCATION: CBM Central Africa Regional Office,Nairobi,Kenya

I. PURPOSE: CBM is an international Christian development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world. Based on its Christian values and over 100 years of professional expertise, CBM works in partnership to create an inclusive society and to provide opportunities for all.

CBMs Regional Office for Central Africa (AFC) has prioritized the establishment of an inclusive internship to break down barriers and to practice inclusion. The AFC team aims at providing an accessible working environment and recognizes a young professional with a disability as a valuable resource for the regional office work. Therefore we are currently offering a: Full time internship for young professionals

II. DURATION:

Duration: 12 months, 4th March 2013 – 31st March 2014

III. STRUCTURE OF AUTHORITY:

The incumbent will report to the Inclusive Development Officer.

IV. MANDATED AIMS:

This internship has the objective to build the skills, capacities and knowledge of a young professional that will encourage and enable him/her to pursue a career in the development sector and to take a more prominent advocacy role in the disability movement.

V. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Inclusive Intern is comprehensively orientated into the regional office as well as AFC's departments within the regional office; • The Intern knows about the International work of CBM on D&ID and under-stands the mandates and priorities of AFC in the Central African Region; • The intern gains basic skills and knowledge in programmatic work and will actively assist the programme Officers and Country Coordinators’ with program development, planning and implementation; • The intern gains basic skills and knowledge in operational work to support the development, management and organization of operational business and standard procedures; • The intern gains basic skills and knowledge in developing, implementing and evaluating regional advocacy/networking activities, capacity development strategies as well as designated funding activities; • The intern gains basic skills, knowledge and attitudes in administration procedures within the Regional Office for both East and Central Africa.

VI. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONALEXPERIENCE

• Preferably first degree in from a recognized university; degree in Communication, Public Relations, Media or related area is an advantage • Work experiences are an asset; • Experience in disability and development issues is an advantage

VII. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
• Committed to work and to act as an advocate for disability • Issues; • Communication skills; • Good knowledge of English (speaking, reading and writing); French will be an added advantage; • Computer skills are an asset; • Flexible and reliable; • Enjoys working in an international team; • Willing to travel; • Identifies with the values of CBM; • Strong interpersonal skills.
