RATN - Grants & Business Development Intern

Period of Performance:  June to November 2012 (15 hours per week - 5 hours per day for 3 days per week)

 Background and Objectives
The Regional AIDS Training Network (RATN) is an international non-profit organisation with operations in Eastern & Southern Africa (ESA) region. RATN represents a consortium of training institutions who collaborate on training activities related to STIs/HIV/AIDS in the region and whose mission is to strengthen the capacity of relevant individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to effectively respond to STIs/HIV/AIDS.  Currently RATN has 33 institutions that are full members spread across 11 countries in ESA region.
RATN is seeking for a fresh graduate student, to work in the Grants and Business Development Unit.
Scope of Work - Grants and Business Development Intern 
Learning Objective
To gain experience in a) researching and acquiring new business for an International NGO, and b) in the administration of a small grants program.
Overall Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Grants and Business Development, the Grants and Business Development Intern shall play a support role in both the acquisition of new business at RATN and the management of RATN’s grant-giving programs.
Activities and Deliverables
·         Support RATN resource mobilization efforts by monitoring industry trends and developments that affect RATN’s strategic activities and conducting research on organizations that have the potential to provide financial or in-kind support to RATN;
·         Populate and maintain database of fundraising targets;
·         Provide administrative support for the development of fundraising proposals;
·         Ensure that comprehensive documentation is maintained and filed for each of RATN’s grant projects;
·         Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
·         Diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing or its equivalent (candidates currently pursuing a degree will also be considered);
·         Excellent research, data analysis/synthesis. Experience in organizing and disseminating business information;
·         Highly computer literate, proficient in MS Office, spreadsheets and online research;
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluency in spoken and written English required;
·         Demonstrated good judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; 
·         Detail orientation, with an ability to operate in a highly organized fashion;
·         Emotional maturity and a good sense of humour.
