HIAS Refugee Trust of Kenya (HRTK) is a non-profit non-governmental organization committed to the assistance, protection and durable solutions needs for refugees at heightened risk in Africa, through the provision of direct psychosocial, social and resettlement services as well as through community outreach and capacity building for partners.
HRTK seeks to recruit an Intern/Life Skills Coach. Under the direct supervision of the Sexual and Gender Based Persecution (SGBP) Program Manager, the incumbent will carry out the following functions:
- Offer basic education to refugees: focusing on English language basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Provide life skills training using a curriculum jointly developed by the supervisor and the incumbent with modules on SGBV prevention and response, leadership, human rights, etc
- Provide vocational & income generation activities training including basic trade skills e.g. budgeting and marketing.
- Determine beneficiaries’ progress and work on an exit strategy that allows them to earn a livelihood and to provide for themselves and their dependants/significant others.
- Assist in the organization and facilitation of capacity building activities e.g. workshops, trainings or information dissemination.
- Prepare periodic reports on training services and clients progress.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Education– Completion of a college diploma preferably in social work.
- Computer literacy a must: excellent working knowledge with WORD, ACCESS and EXCEL.
- Good knowledge of human rights doctrine and working experience with sexual and gender minorities.
- Experience in capacity building including facilitation of community-based training, awareness raising and livelihoods.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in English and Swahili
